Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are energetic kids, eager to learn. Over 90% of our students come from low-income households. A large percentage of our families meet the definition of homeless, living in garages or multiple families in one residence. My kids' parents are struggling to pay rent and get food on the table. And yet, our children still want to create, read, write, and learn!

My students worry about coming to school and staying safe; and yet, they still want to come to school to explore, learn and grow.

I am teaching online and trying to meet my students' needs emotionally, as well as academically, during this pandemic. I want them to be safe and stay healthy as they work hard to learn to read, learn to use technology, and at the same time, learn language arts, math, science and social studies.

My Project

These math machines help students learn their basic addition facts. The equation is on the top. And with a slight push on the button, correct answers pop up for immediate reinforcement. With repetition and visual stimulation, students are given the correct answers to check their own work. These machines teach the students the patterns of addition, as well. Students can see that "adding one more" looks the same and works in a line with each number getting greater. Students can see the pattern of adding 2. They can learn the pattern of adding 10.

These math machines will provide my students with hands-on learning in mathematics with self-checking capabilities.

This math game is fun, interactive and hands-on. Students will learn regardless of prior knowledge. Looking at the correct answer will help with learning addition, without worrying if they got the correct answer or having to check with the teacher online. They can see the answer right in front of them.

My kids will learn to add through play and manipulation. Beginning addition is the pathway to future accountants and business people. It is the pathway to independence and financial knowledge. Thank you for considering my grant for your donations.
