This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Remember the first time you saw the Wizard of Oz and everything changed from black and white to color? Remember how beautiful it was? I try to bring color into everything I do for my students. It's one of the easiest things for them to relate to. They respond to color. They learn from color.

My students are six and seven years old boys and girls with special needs.

We are a self contained first and second grade special education class in a community school in the Bronx. I also have several English Language Learners in my classroom. All my students love to draw, write stories, and love to show off all the work they accomplish.

My Project

We are lucky that we have a printer in the classroom, but sometimes it may not work, or ink may not be available. We have a SmartBoard that I would be lost without and they always love when I put their work on the Smart Board. Of course that requires me going home to scan it and bring it in the next day. My students need a color printer, copier and scanner and ink. With a printer/scanner in our classroom, I could do that for them during their lunch or my prep! I love to make colorful charts for them or vocabulary cards to support my English Language Learners, but I find myself running to Staples to make the copies. When they publish their writing, I have to put it in their portfolio. With a copier, I can hang a copy up and send one home for my student to be proud of and show off! The possibilities are endless for my students with this piece of equipment in my classroom!

Having this printer/scanner/copier in my classroom will help my students learn, show off their work and achievement and help me create the supporting documents and materials they need to succeed.
