My Project

The students in my class are all diagnosed with Autism. Although some of my students communicate verbally, most use speech generating communication devices along with sign language and picture supports. All of my students have learning challenges and difficulty communicating and using spontaneous language. These enthusiastic young learners are all highly motivated during activities involving literature but typically require adapted materials to access the information. The materials from this project would allow each student to have folders with adapted picture symbols, laminated communication boards to correspond to each topic and customized tools for expressing and assessing comprehension.

My students need immersive multi-sensory experiences, with visual communication supports to facilitate their language and literacy skills.

They need frequent opportunities to listen to stories, practice the words, answer questions, and share in the retelling using manipulatives, in order to develop their language and vocabulary. Please help me continue to successfully build their literacy skills.
