This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in a low income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. I teach 3-5 year old students with disabilities, specifically autism. They enjoy coming to school and are eager to learn, but rely strongly on visuals. My students need very specific supplies and activities; more than what the district is able to provide. Many books in my classroom are handmade or modified with visuals to help them succeed with the curriculum. I am hoping by putting together this project, that I am able to provide them with the colored visuals, books, reinforcers, and activities that they need to be successful.

My Project

Our classroom involves a lot of self made books and materials as my students need adapted books and visuals to help them succeed. Every week I create a new book that is our main focus but with that comes money, as I purchase materials on my own. Many of my students need highly motivating toys and items that we call reinforcers as well to help them during work sessions! My hopes is that with this project I will gain the materials I need to create these books for my classroom as well as provide the students with some highly motivating items that will help them learn and succeed.
