My Students

My students are a unique group of kids. Pulling from all 5 boroughs of NYC, we have kids who fight for equity, justice, and each other at every turn. Our school serves a diverse cross-section of the city from kids who will head to Ivy League schools, kids who will attend prestigious state schools, kids who will enter the military, or community colleges. In addition to all of this, we also are the first high school in New York City to have a program specifically for kids on the autism spectrum.

Our students are simply phenomenal and world-changing.

Kids stage walkouts for causes they believe in, debate ideas, even when they are tough, and are honest with each other nearly to a fault. They have changed me in innumerable ways and continue to shape how I view teaching every day.

When distance learning was enacted in March, my students rallied and showed up for class as best as they could. I got a chance to see them in a new light and maintain the spirit they had in the building as best as they could.

My Project

I'm requesting a new computer so I can actually teach my students virtually next year. My district will not have enough funds to update teacher computers this year, and my computer crashed daily during the last month of distance learning.

With a new computer, students will be able to actually see and hear me during instruction, instead of just hoping our technology will keep up with our discussions.

Having access to functional technology will not only allow me to teach more effectively but will also help my students feel more seen and heard in this difficult time.
