Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The basic foundational skill to help all students become successful in school is their ability to read and comprehend texts and tasks at hand. So we would like to start a book drive where students can feel safe and welcomed to pick out books and activities to help support their reading goals. The students will be able to take whatever they pick home so that they can have resources and accessibility in their homes.

Help these students gain the building blocks of literacy.

The goal is to get lower-level books into the hands of struggling readers, grades 3-5 is very rigorous and we need to give them an opportunity to explore the world of reading.

Students will create a flier that they can send to teachers, that will be dispersed to their students to excite them about the free book drive. The leaders will help set up the books for the book drive and will help the students choose books of their interest. They will also talk to the students about the importance of reading daily to improve their literacy skills. Read, read, read!
