My Project

Healthy development means that children of all abilities, including those with special health care needs, are able to grow up where their social, emotional and educational needs are met. This is not restricted to learning within the confines of the classroom as healthy childhood development is also fostered through sufficient physical activity. I believe that by exposing my wonderful students to the great outdoors, I will have the perfect opportunity to teach them how to play outside while they increase their ability to communicate, share, deal with conflict while having fun in a low-stress environment. The COVID-19 virus outbreak has changed the daily lives of all students including to what extent related restrictions may compromise the ability to play and meet movement behavior recommendations.

Every child with diverse needs faces an entire range of different and specific challenges, so exposing them to outside sensory play will aid them in their needs.

Outdoor play leads to improved behavior, makes it easier for children to build friendships, and offers countless opportunities to develop and improve social interactions. Donations to this project will allow my students to play and do activities outside encouraging them to explore all their senses.

Sensory play using a bubble lawnmower, shooting hoops using an adjustable basketball set, participating in a “larger-than-life” Connect 4 game will not only benefit students who have physical challenges, but will help all children improve their cognitive skills while encouraging overall confidence development.
