My Project

My approach for this year is to make the students' chemistry experience exciting and meaningful through hands-on investigations which promote critical thinking and collaboration.

Students are excited when they get a chance to get out of their seats and participate in interesting and fun labs.

This year I have made a priority to include labs for each topic and soon acids/bases are coming up and I need to be prepared to teach the students properly which means we need quality equipment.

I am requesting two different kits. With one, students explore the characteristics of acids and bases, relate pH values to the concentration of hydronium and hydroxide ions, and conduct neutralization reactions. These explorations gain a real-life connection when students next examine household substances. Then, the other kit allows students to use indicators to test for acids and bases, combine acids with metals and carbonates to produce hydrogen and carbon dioxide gas, and titrate vinegar to determine the molar concentration of acetic acid. They perform the classic test for hydrogen gas using a burning splint.
