Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Like most classrooms, ESL classes have many diverse learners and learning needs. In my class, there are students who struggle with attention, overstimulation, managing difficult emotions, and prior trauma. Providing accommodations and materials to help them succeed benefits those learners and the classes as a whole.
Students need a chance to succeed by working within their learning needs instead of against them.
Focal objects, colored overlays, pencil grips, timers, noise reduction headphones, breathing technique tools, and comfortable seating for the classroom calm corner can all help students regulate their emotions in order to be present and ready to learn in the classroom!
