Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
I am a third year teacher at Neff ELC and I teach Pre-K students.
Practically all of the students come from the low socioeconomic status families.
Most of them are ESL students, they learn English as a second language, their parents being immigrants from the countries from all over the world. Namely, their native languages are Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Hindi, Chinese, Vietnamese, and various African languages. Despite difficult conditions at home, the children have an enormous desire to learn, to participate in all the activities, to develop their potential and be useful in the classroom, at school and in the society.
My Project
It is very important for the young learners to work with concrete materials. Their thinking will develop from concrete to abstract during the elementary years of school.
These materials will make students very motivated and excited about learning Math, Literacy, and Science.
Thus, Bean Bags will help them learn while exercising and playing games.
Playdough mats will engage them in recognition of the letters and help them with letter formation.
Feltboards will help their kinesthetic and tactile memory to remember letters and numbers.
Magnetic letters will dance on the magnetic wall and help us make words.
Unifix CVC cubes will help those children who know letters and work on reading 3 letter words.
I spy game will promote cooperative learning of letters and sounds.
Different manipulatives as counters and number puzzles will help them to understand on-to-one correspondence in Math. They will be able to play and learn numbers and counting each item while playing with a buddy.
Magnifying glasses and rocks will help us with exploration of Science as well as Literacy and Math.
Sand will be placed in the Sensory table for drawing numbers, letters, and shapes
So the students will have different opportunities to master the basics with hands-on materials and become devoted life-long learners
