A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
I look forward to their bright and shiny smiles each day. Although their bodies may prove to give difficulties, their spirits and smiles come with ease. My students are urban high school students with special needs. They are all eligible to receive free breakfast and lunch. My students range from having multiple disabilities that can include mental and physical challenges as well as autism and social challenges. Some students are learning to make eye contact while others are learning to speak their names and others are learning to speak in front of non-family members. Some students are learning to hold writing utensils while others are learning to print their names and a few have pushed their limits and are learning sign their names in cursive.
"Look Ms Green, Look what I did!" The pure joy of overcoming an obstacle and reaching a goal or achieving a task is proudly announced verbally or through high fives or a simple smile for those that are nonverbal.
What do all these students have in common...pure hearts and a clean slate each and every day. They accept with such hearts and start fresh daily. They arrive ready to learn new skills.
My Project
Students will learn independence as well as social skills. All of my students lack daily decision making when faced with choices. The learning games will give them direct examples in a stress free interactive way to practice Activities of Daily Living.
Due to physical limitations of wheelchairs, walkers, leg braces, etc, the book cart and organization cart will be able to be wheeled by students to each peer's area for accessibility for them to browse the selections without depending on other students or the teacher to bring a book or school supplies to them.
Students will learn social skills while using the board games (turn taking, speaking, listening skills) while learning the actual skill per game... money skills, what would you do skills,
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
