Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am so fortunate to work in a school that supports the academic, social, emotional, and vocational adaptation of skills for individuals who are on the autism spectrum. Our students each bring to the classroom a wide array of incredible skills and needs that span the entire spectrum. They amaze me every single day with their ability to adapt to an ever-changing world but also remain their true selves for the whole world to see without any apologizing. They show love and laughter in ways every day that we celebrate and seek to spread out into the community. They yearn for inclusion and acceptance into the broader world and I love the opportunity I have to help them successfully bring the world to them.

My Project

The accessible materials and supplies that I am requesting for my high school autistic students will be a true game-changer in my new classroom this school year. Students who are autistic or have ADHD benefit greatly from opportunities to move around. The wobble chairs, standing desks, and sensory mat will provide them with the access they need to learn in an environment that truly meets their accessible needs.

Giving my students spaces beyond just our standard desks and four-legged chairs will give them the support they need to better reach their goals.

The color spots will allow me to visually create stations around my classroom that help support my students' sensory needs and help build their independent living skills. I am so excited about the opportunity to help build a more accessible space.
