This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is a multi-age, bridge class of 1st and 2nd graders from the East Village of Manhattan. They come from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. My students possess positive attitudes toward learning. About 50% of my school's population qualifies for free or reduced lunch. Despite the fact that some students come from economic hardship, my students show up each day, happy, smiling, and ready to learn! Their thirst for knowledge never ends!

Each student has their own individual identity that helps make our classroom learning environment a special place.

Each child has their own unique strengths and interests that they bring to the learning experience. Furthermore, they all share a common interest for reading and engaging with text.

My Project

The manual that I am requesting for my students will help me provide my students with effective reading instruction in phonics, comprehension, and fluency. I will use this manual to teach my students phonics and word study that will unlock their reading powers and create life-long learners! The lessons in the WIlson's Fundations program are engaging, systematic, sequential, and explicit.

The donations to this project will help to improve my students' understanding of phonics, comprehension, and fluency.

Therefore, building life-long readers.

Reading is a civil right and equity issue. In order to break down the inequalities that students face, they must be provided with effective reading instruction. The Wilson's Fundation program will provide my students with the instruction that they need to unlock their reading superpowers!
