I am a traveling art teacher on a cart, delivering an art lesson, and a project to a different group of children each hour in our school. I service 450 children per week in grades K thru 5th. Our kids are from low income households, and we are a high poverty school, where 100% of the children receive free lunch.
The children look forward to me coming to their classrooms each week, and they often ask me ahead of time in the halls when I am traveling, what we will be doing in class this week.
Their enthusiasm about art encourages me as a teacher to do more, and more for them.
Some of the projects require more than 45 minutes to complete, and there are times when we have deadlines. My budget for art supplies for our school has dwindled down to $500 per year, and I cannot afford to leave supplies behind. I am asking for a grant for materials, so that the children can complete all projects that we do with extended time. I would like to see each child have access to a package of crayons, and a package of markers at all times.
With your generous donations, my art students will have access to art supplies all day at school in every classroom that I service. These supplies will enable each student extra time to complete all art projects when there is free time in their regular classes.
Having these supplies on hand in each classroom will encourage students to do more art during the day, and will save time distributing materials before I arrive in each class.
Students will then have more time to create art with proper guidance.
I also believe that having access to art materials all day will increase creativity at our school, as well as develop art skills in each student. Germs are also spread school wide when all 450 children share the same materials each week. With a $500 budget each year for art supplies, if this project is funded by donors, I can purchase other art supplies that these children never get to work with.
