My Students

All of the kindergarten students in my class are diagnosed with Autism. My young learners have complex speech, language and learning needs. Although some of my students communicate verbally, others use sign language, picture supports, or communication devices. My students have difficulty communicating and using spontaneous social language. Generalizing skills between environments is challenging.

My students need immersive multi-sensory experiences to facilitate their language and learning in school and at home during distance learning.

Hands-on exploration and adapted materials are essential to create a successful learning experience for my class. They need consistency in order to effectively learn new skills, practice their words, and develop their language and vocabulary.

Please help me continue to support their language and learning in the classroom and at home during times when distance learning is a required.

My Project

My young learners with autism use customized adapted activity binders throughout the day. Individualized communication boards, picture schedules, and topic specific picture supports are always available to promote communication, learning and independence.

In order to be successful, my students need to be able to access these adapted materials when they are working and learning at home as well as in school.

Sudden changes can be overwhelming for my class. Having these materials at home will facilitate consistency, allowing my students to effectively learn new skills, practice their words, and develop their language and vocabulary. This will also create the opportunity for these little learners to generalize their skills between environments.

These adapted items are customized for each student. Due to their unique learning needs, the items must be durable and easily manipulated. Cardstock, velcro, laminating sheets, and page protectors are essential for creating sturdy individualized materials.
