Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are constantly distracted in class: friends, family, relationships, videogames, phones, and gossip all compete for their attention at any given moment. How are teachers supposed to actually catch and hold their focus for more than a few minutes at a time? The pandemic definitely disrupted normal school behaviors, and we've been trying to refocus our students on learning ever since. For some, the challenges to their focus are too hard to overcome without some enticing carrots along the way.

Giving my students reasons to stay focused, listen, participate, keep things clean, be kind, help each other, and be good classroom citizens is easier when I have incentives such as these yo-yos, candy, snacks, plushies, cute erasers, and other kid-friendly prizes to hand out for any good behavior I see.

The footballs will be a welcome diversion when the students need an outdoors break. The cellophane and leather punch will let them add embellishments to their projects. And who doesn't need a Thing Explainer when you're not sure how something works?

I've noticed a definitely uptick in manners, focus, and participation since instituting whole-class and individual reward systems in my middle school classroom. Thank you so much for your support!
