Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My first-grade class consists of second language learners. I teach at a Title One school where students receive free lunch. About eighty percent of our students come from economically disadvantaged homes. They are always energetic, motivated, and enthusiastic to learn new skills. They are learning to read, write, count, and have a passion to gain knowledge. My students come to school, ready and eager to learn new concepts and always excited to try their best. They are a community of students who encourage each other daily.

My Project

With the return back into the classroom, students are keeping up with the advancements in education to keep sparking their interests in math. My students are currently learning how to add and subtract numbers greater than ten. It will be extremely beneficial for each student to have a Rekenrek abacus to expand their knowledge of number concepts. The hands-on learning tool will help to improve and increase student attention and focus in the class. It will ultimately help improve their academic achievement as they continue learning new daily math skills.
