As you know the U.S. is in a recession. Unfortunately this has had an incredible impact not only on the adult population but also our children. Several school districts have been affected by this. I teach visual art in one of these public school district. I have been given no budget this year.

My students love art. They love to come in and showcase their creative talents, especially my students that struggle in core subjects. Several of these students excel in the arts. What is so hard for me as a visual art teacher is that most of my supplies are consumable. At this point I desperately want to continue to teach and enhance my students visual art abilities but with no budget it is becoming very difficult to full fill this. That is why I am placing this grant on donorschoose. My art room needs supplies for an Aboriginal art project I would like to do with them.

I want to introduce them to the original settlers of Australia. The Aboriginal people have history going back thousands of years. Many still live the way they did hundreds of years ago. I want my students to be exposed and introduced to this great culture. I want them to experience the visual art of the aboriginal people. Aboriginal Bark Painting is the unit I want to teach. We would need brown kraft paper to create our work on. My student would cover the paper with oil pastel by drawing stripes or designs. Next they would cover the pastel drawing with a coat of black tempera paint. Last they would scratch out animals from Australia to create a beautiful animal bark painting.

Your help will ensure that my students will continue to experience new and creative ideas from present and past cultures. You will make it possible for them to continue to express themselves through the wonderful world of visual art.
