My Students

My students are from a low income area, almost 80% of our students receive free or reduced lunch. I know their total learning is enhanced through their arts education. Providing interaction with art and creating with different materials offers them learning experiences they don't get anywhere else.

My students are from a disadvantaged area of the county.

They don't have very much offered to them at home. I have been working at this school three years and I love teaching these students about ART! Knowledge about famous artists, art history, art from different continents as well as working with interesting materials is what I offer my students. They are very enthusiastic when they come to art class. They take pride in their projects and are eager to take them home. They turn out to be amazingly talented and surprise themselves as they work on projects.

My Project

Our media specialist picks a school wide theme every year. This years theme is "It's a jungle out there so you've got to read to survive". I am going to bring this to life by teaching about the tropical rain forest in Australia and about Aboriginal Art. Introducing children to new and exciting places is my main objective. I am requesting materials to do a dot painting activity with my 4th and 5th grade students. This project will impact approx. 200 students. Students will be painting with different sizes of dowels in the Australian style of the Aboriginal artist. Stories and books about Australia and its animals will be part of the student learning.

Donations will provide the much needed supplies to bring this project to life.

Through this project the stories and knowledge of the Aboriginal people will become real to my students.
