Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach an Intellectual Disability Severe K-5th grade class. Every single student is unique. Even though I have not met them personally I see that each possesses different abilities and characteristics that make them special. Since they are nonverbal, they communicate with their actions. At times, I see when they need a break because they start getting up or when they enjoy a song because they dance. It is a way for them to communicate with us. We focus on their strength to meet their needs.

My Project

These books will help my students see themselves being represented in our society. I want them to come inside our classroom and feel that they are represent inside and that they are being acknowledge. Also, it will empower them by reading the stories inside these books. I want to be able to include books that students can relate to them and promote reading a book in our classroom in this month of Read Across America. If students are able to see themselves in books, they are more encourage to grab a book.
