My Students

My students attend school in the South Bronx every day for a chance to improve their current skills and to continue to succeed! These are all children come from low-income families and have special needs, specifically autism. Many of my students are non-verbal, facing challenges daily of communicating with peers and adults at school, as well as with their family and friends at home and in their community. These students receive therapy (speech, PT, and/or OT) multiple times a week, either individually, or in a group. Each child has an Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), which require all tasks and activities to be adjusted and changed based on the skills of each student. My students are always appreciative of new materials and items they receive!!

My Project

Letter Recognition Instant Learning Center and Alphabet Learning Locks will assist our students with recognizing, identifying, matching and labeling uppercase and lowercase letters and their sounds correctly. Pop & Match Beginning Phonics Games, Match-A-Sound!, Sound-It-Out Phonics Puzzles and Phonemic Awareness Boxes will assist in improving phonic skills in a fun and engaging way! Learning Sight-Words Activity Chest: children can match, find, build and write sight-words! Family Engagement Language Packs will help develop skills in recognizing sight-words, retelling simple stories, recognizing rhyming sounds, recognizing and counting syllables, identifying letters, learning beginning sounds, building vocabulary, recognizing opposites, and building simple words.

These donations will not only enhance our student's phonic skills, but also, allow them to be engaged and have fun while they are learning their ABCs.

The list of materials will help promote better phonics skills, but also help the students improve on following directions, memory skills and socializations skills . We are looking forward to our new additions to our future speech sessions!
