My Students

Alphabet knowledge appears to be a simple concept, but it is much more that singing the ABC song. Recognizing the alphabet is one of the earliest predictors of reading success. In order for a child to read, he/she needs to have an understanding of the alphabet and the sounds the letters make.

I teach on an air force base.

My students come to me from all over the world and United States. Our school has a high rate of free and reduced lunch, and many times there is only one parent at home due to deployment. Standards vary across the US and world, so children come to me with a range of skills. They need a stable, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environment at school to succeed and be prepared for first grade.

My Project

Young children learn best through play. Activities that make learning fun help children to connect with the material and learn quickly. The alphabet puppets I have requested allow students to engage with the letter, the sound it makes, as well as words that begin with that letter. I've also requested an alphabet picnic basket and an alphabet mystery box that contain the letters of the alphabet and items that correlate with each letter. These activities are excellent for large group instruction as well as small group intervention. Children connect to the real life objects better than photographs. The magnetic alphabet fishing set is to be used in the sensory table for small group learning. Children learn best through hands on, playful activities rather than worksheets and repetitive tasks. Using these resources in the classroom will inspire all students to learn, work hard, and try their best because they are having FUN while they are learning!t

The parents of the children I teach work hard every day and risk their lives to protect our freedom.

It is my thank you to them to give their child the strong foundational education that he/she deserves. Working on an air force base is an amazing experience, and I want to teach with the full extent of my knowledge and with the best teaching materials available to help these children achieve all of their dreams and reward them for the sacrifices they are forced to make every day.
