My Students

It has been said that reading opens doors for children. Well, in order to read you must first know your letters!

Our school is home to about 300 students in a high poverty, inner city neighborhood.

Due to low enrollment and changes within our school district, our school was one step away from being closed last year. Despite the challenges that my students face, they are incredibly resilient. The seven students that learn in my classroom all have low incidence disabilities such as Autism Spectrum Disorders and Down Syndrome. Their vivacious personalities, zest for life, desire to learn, and boldness are a huge part of our school culture. They do not let developmental delays or poverty get in the way of their learning. I truly LOVE my job as their teacher and cannot imagine teaching a different group of children.

My Project

The requested materials include tons of engaging and fun materials for my students to master letter identification. Some of the materials include fun, interactive file folder games, tactile alphabet letters, games with alphabet dice, and wipe off markers to assist in writing practice. My students learn best through repetition, direct instruction, highly engaging materials, and interactive learning tools. These materials are perfect! With the help of these alphabet tools, all of my students will be readers in no time.

Reading is such an important life skill that we often take for granted.

In order for my students to become as independent as possible, they need to learn their alphabet first! Please consider helping my deserving students make these gains. Thank you!
