My Project

These items will help me to put together Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) booklets and communication/picture boards with core vocabulary (core boards) to be used with non-verbal and limited verbal communicators in the classroom. These booklets are great for limited to non-verbal communicators of all ages, however I will utilize them the most with my K-2 grade students. These booklets help to give our students voices, to ensure they have an effective method to communicate their wants and needs, especially in the classroom setting. Ensuring these booklets are laminated will greatly help expand their life, for long-time use. The binding set will give me the option to add additional pages to their booklets as their expressive vocabularies continue to grow.

Providing non-verbal/limited verbal communicators with AAC devices and/or booklets is an extremely powerful tool in ensuring our students have a voice.

These booklets can be carried with them as they transition through the classroom and around the school, giving them a voice and a method of communication in a variety of settings. I often practice working with these communication booklets during speech therapy sessions, however I do not currently have the means to make enough for my students to have booklets of their own to keep with them. When students have their own booklets, they are able to get the practice with them that they truly need in order to be maximally successful with their booklets in the classroom and in the academic setting.
