My Students

My high school is in an urban location in Richmond, VA. The make-up of our students is extremely diverse and most of them qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. I am a special education teacher who collaborates in a general education classroom. I am teaching English 11 this year and I am excited to get to know my students, albeit through social distancing, and help them establish a love of reading and writing. Most of my students are technologically savvy as they are attached to their cellphones but often don't know how to expand that skill in the classroom.

I would like to be able to offer my students a way to decrease or remove outside stressors so that they can focus while in my classroom.

Using journaling and writing prompts, I would like to be able to address their social-emotional levels while also preparing for standardized testing and real-world experiences. If you can not connect to what you feel and share that, how can you interview well or write a personal statement or resolve conflicts effectively?

My Project

By donating towards the one year subscription of Study.com, you will provide a resource for my students that is available 24/7. Not only will they have opportunities to use this program in class, but also during tutoring, one-on-one time and at any time that's convienent for them. Most of these students play sports, work, or take care of younger siblings at home, so they need the additional flexibility of study materials outside of the traditional classroom setting. It can be set up to cater to individual needs and not one size fits all.
