My Project

I teach a diverse group of artistic students at a Title I visual and performing arts school. Students come from all over the city to our public high school to receive a top-notch education in both academics and their chosen art form (music, dance, visual arts, or theater) and go on to study at some of the top academic colleges and art schools across the country.

My dream is to create a classroom library of books that students will love to read, are free to borrow and keep if they love them!

Studies have shown that reading for fun not only supports mental health but improves a students' literature skills- and I hope to instill a love for reading in the students that I work with. I have read many of the books on this request list and they are wonderful stories! Many of the books were selected because they highlight the life experiences of my diverse student body, and I hope that students can see themselves represented in the characters they read about.

My previous book collection was completely destroyed when a hurricane created a water leak in my classroom, and I look forward to recreating that calming space and resources like bookshelves and books for my students. Thank you in advance for your support of my amazing students!
