This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

"A whole new world. A new fantastic point of view." When Aladdin sang this song he was referring to seeing the world on a magic carpet, but with advances in technology seeing the world is no longer requires magic, or rather it requires a different type of magic; a virtual reality headset.

I want to give my students virtual reality headsets, two for now and hopefully more in the future, to help them experience this brand new world.

Our literacy unit is cross curricular and explores both social studies and science themes, and with VR headsets these themes will literally come to life. In our current American Revolution unit students would be able to see first hand what life was like for the Patriots as they fought for their independence, or march with women during the suffrage movement as they tried to ratify the 19th Amendment, or even see animals in their natural habitats and observe as they use their defense mechanisms to protect themselves against predators. Not only will students be much more engaged with the content and support those bodily kinesthetic and visual learners, but it might even spark students interest in careers in the fields of History and STEM, which is an added bonus.
