My Students

My students are under-credited and over-aged who will age of the school system. We are located in Queens NY and many of the students take public transportation to school.

We are the last chance most of them have to receive their high school diploma.

Many of them come from low-income households or broken homes and have children of their own or have been in trouble with the law. The majority of our students really want to graduate and try very hard to attend school and complete the work.

My Project

Using a whiteboard will give them the hands-on activities that they need for group activities, instead of using chart paper all the time. For example, when we have a group activity, they can use the white board and erase it to fix their work or adjust it instead of wasting another piece of chart paper and having to start over.

Also, most of the students get here after 9 am, after the cafeteria closes, so they haven't eaten and it is a great distraction.

By supplying some snacks, I can have them focus on the work and not their empty bellies.
