This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our students need warm winter coats, hats and gloves. We are a small elementary school on the north shore of Staten Island. 89.8% of our students qualify for free/reduced lunch. We serve students from PreK-3 through grade 5. Despite their hard work and efforts, many of our families are unable to provide warm winter coats, hats and gloves for the season.

Warm coats, hats and gloves are a necessity for our students.

Most of our students wait for the school bus or walk to school. During the cold winter months, lack of a warm coat and winter accessories can negatively impact students' health and attendance. The ability to stay warm in the elements increases the probability of our students coming to school, so that they won't have to miss out on learning during the winter.

Furthermore, playing outside every day at recess has many proven benefits for children. We make every attempt to ensure that students are able to get this critical time outdoors, daily. When students come to school without the proper winter attire, they are unable to enjoy their much needed outdoor play time. Help us give our students the opportunity to stay warm both on their way to and from school, and during outdoor recess!
