My Students

Our euphonium section in band class is suffering, with old instruments that are falling apart. One of our baritones has now fallen into pieces, having survived for the last thirty-eight years in our instrument inventory. We are in need of a new euphonium to complete our section in the band!

In one of the only thriving music programs in this urban environment, our instrumental classes reach more than 400 students per day.

Our students are eager to learn new techniques, practice their music, and perform for their families and friends. Our school is a large environment, with over 1400 students and staff covering almost an entire city block. Students come from all walks of life, and converge in our classrooms to learn about working together to create a musical performance. By the end of the three-year program here, many of our students move on to opportunities of scholarships and school placements that would never have been available before. This music program is the heart and soul of this school, and the life-line for many students that come from a challenging past.

My Project

The euphonium (or baritone horn) that you donate will allow students in this section to play on a new instrument. This is something that the euphonium section has never done. The euphoniums are some of the oldest that we have in our instrumental inventory. With larger instruments being more expensive, we do not have the money as a program to replace them throughout the years. Our music program receives no funding from the state, the city, or the school. We end up with euphoniums that hold together for many years due to in-school repairs, but they do not offer our students the best in developing their technical skill. We need a new baritone to replace an instrument in the inventory that has literally fallen into pieces after serving our program for thirty eight years.

Every students deserves the chance to have an instrument that works without difficulty.

It has been frustrating for this section to deal with the frequent breakdowns of the instruments in their section. With a new euphonium, every student in the section will have the opportunity to play on a working instrument every day. This one instrument will impact everyone in the music program, and may be the difference of that inspires the students in this section.
