My Students

My students are just turning five. Currently, we are distance learning. For many of them, this is their first experience in a school setting, and it is anything but typical! Some of the students have special learning needs, and many are learning English for the first time. The majority of their families live below the poverty line and rely on our free meal plan for their children's breakfast and lunch. The parents are very supportive, and they enjoy spending time with their little ones, reading stories, and learning new things. We are a very diverse community, with over 20 languages spoken.

Our school is a high poverty Title I school with high expectations for all.

Each day we practice letters, phonics, and sight words. We study science and math. Distance learning during the pandemic consists of live, online instruction on Zoom and using iPad apps and websites. This is very difficult for four year olds who can’t even sit through a movie!

My Project

We are currently learning remotely but have been given the news that we will be returning to in-person learning soon. We will have a hybrid schedule, with the students spending some days in the classroom and some at home learning remotely.

We are in need of items to help us keep the classroom clean and safe for the students and teachers.

Paper towels, disinfecting wipes, and tissues will be very useful and will help us with the needed protocols to protect everyone and keep the learning happening at school.

We are also requesting individually wrapped crackers, juice, and water for snacks while at school. An electric stapler and staples will help with making packets of work to send home with the students to be done on their learning at home days.

With your help, a great group of four year olds will finally be able to experience what is like to be at school with their classmates. Thank you so much for your help!
