My Students

My kids are bright, energetic, full of imagination and fun. I say "my kids" because that's exactly what they are. They are my kids for 180 days. I care about them, I nurture their growth and I worry about their futures.

My students are four turning five and the amount of energy and excitement that they bring is endless.

They are little sponges ready to soak up any knowledge I share and they learn BEST through hands-on activities.

My Project

As a transitional kindergarten teacher a big part of my job is making sure that my students LOVE their first year of elementary school. I need to show these young learners that school is not only a place for learning their ABC's and math skills, but also a safe place for building friendships, making mistakes and messes and growing as a person. I do this largely with hands-on learning.

Distance learning is challenging!

Hands-on learning is not easy to do through a computer screen. Giving my families interactive and engaging materials to use at home is a way to build those connections and give them those learning experiences that they so desperately need. However, it requires many hours of printing, laminating and cutting. Having a printer at home would give me the ability to print at ease without having to drive to my school site. There is only one copy machine at my school for ALL staff members to use. I'm sure I don't need to explain or elaborate on the many issues that I face having access to only one school printer.

Additionally, because we are teaching remotely I use Zoom everyday for my live teaching sessions. The issue that I am having is that I can only see six students at a time when I share my screen. Having to scroll through a tiny grid everyday while teaching to ensure that my students are engaged and on task is time consuming and ineffective. A second monitor will allow me to see all of my students without the worry of anyone getting lost or distracted.

In closing, having a printer at home and a second monitor will give me the tools that I need to provide my students with the very BEST distance learning experience.
