My Project

I teach a wonderful mixed group of students- various incomes and learning levels. One thing they all have in common is NO SUPPLIES. Forget notebooks, binders, even folders- they can't even bring a pencil or piece of paper and in my class, the chromebooks are locked away- it's all done with old fashioned supplies. (I'd love to add whiteboards to the mix!)

I teach US History, Hawaiian History, and Civics and for all three I need great informative educational posters and materials on display around my room and in my fingertips so that the Bill of Rights poster seeps into their memory before they know it, and I can whip out a globe to orient them to the BIG picture of social studies.

I need maps to orient the kids. And I teach on Oahu. I am from California but most of my students have never gone further than another outer island. (or maybe Vegas.) We need maps and (my dream for years now) a good globe. Not only do they need to see the geography of the contiguous states, they need to understand the world- where the World Wars were, what our colonial reach was during imperialism, how relatively isolated the whole Americas are from other continents and how we became self-sufficient and stayed out of outside wars so effectively during the period I teach.

I need white boards so students can attempt to answer and share with me and peers with low stakes- no grade, if you are wrong, erase and try again.

And art supplies! We draw maps, propoganda posters, take illustrated notes, etc and teachers fight for a limited supply of markers/crayons/pencils that disappear all the time. Poster paper is also needed!
