This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students love green. When they walk into my classroom for the first time, I try to have lots of plants growing in pots and on our grow-light cart. The real eye-catcher though is our Tower Garden. It's a 7-foot tall hydroponic system that can grow dozens of plants in a narrow vertical space - perfect for our small classroom. Throughout the year, students learn how to maintain the Tower Garden, keep its pH in balance, clean it, plant in it, and eventually harvest it. They learn how we can grow food sustainably, a critical component to fighting climate change.

The strawberries, herbs, and greens we pull from the Tower Garden require consumables we must replace every year.

Please help us keep our Tower Garden growing with some of the essentials we need: citric acid for cleaning, nutrients for growing, net-pots to replace older broken ones, and a pH meter to keep the nutrient-rich water in balance. With your help, our tower can keep going and our food growing for another year!
