This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend a Pre-K through elementary school in New York.

Our school is located in one of the poorest congressional districts in the nation.

Many of my students have special needs, are repeating a grade or are struggling academically to achieve grade level expectations. Many of my students are from single-parent homes and reside in nearby public housing.

My students are a hard-working group who are persistent and determined to do well in school. They need essential resources to enable them to maximize learning opportunities and help them to do their best work every day.

My Project

The resources that I am requesting will be used by students in the writing center while I am working with other students during guided reading groups. The writing center will have essential tools and resources that students can use to build on their writing skills collaboratively and independently.

Literacy learning experiences should be relevant and meaningful!

The notebooks, an assortment of K-5 literacy centers activities from TeachersPayTeachers that focus on reading, writing and word work/vocabulary activities, pencils, a sharpener, markers, crayons, glue sticks, magnetic letters, journals and assorted paper will help them improve their literacy skills while visiting the writing center. The digital resources will help me create literacy center activities that are not only rigorous but aligned to the Common Core Learning Standards. The resources will enable students to be artistic and creative so they can showcase their writing. The markers, crayons, and pencils will them be creative and artistic in designing report covers. The journals and notebooks will enable them to illustrate their book and write engaging stories with dialogue. My students will use the invitations to invite family members to their celebration.

The Super-Duper Publishing Party will help my students develop their reading, speaking, and listening skills. They will also practice and hone their writing skills. The celebrations will also engage my students' parents and families in topics students are learning about in school as they share their drafts, revisions, edits and final pieces of writing. These celebrations will enable my students to develop their oral language, presentation writing, reading and oral reading fluency skills. During these publishing parties, my students will be able to stand proudly in front of their peers, parents, or families and share their accomplishments in writing at a 'Super-Duper Publishing Party.'
