Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The range of supplies for visual arts will allow students to co-develop an arts program at our high school, where we will have a new Studio Art course after several years without a visual arts class. They will be able to engage in the development of long-term visual arts projects while many, as newcomers to the United States, will have an opportunity to strengthen their communication and English literacy skills.

While creating visual and tactile representations, my students take part in a simultaneous rehearsal and troubleshooting of their literacy skills through self-expression.

They will be able to plan, design, and execute self-guided art pieces - as well as collaborate with peers to create community-sourced installations, sharing activism through art. These sketchpads, rulers, drawing pencils, and markers will offer my students a new medium with which to understand themselves, communicate with each other, and become creative problem solvers in our larger community.
