Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Every morning we start class off by repeating directions over and over to complete our morning routines. Step by step I give directions on how to complete routines such as unpacking, our schedule for the morning, and who gets jobs! We need tons of visuals and prompts!

My students are awesome.

I have the majority of my class year after year. I teach a k-5 unit of self contained special needs students with sever cognitive disorders. Most of my students have downs syndrome. We are a school in a small town that's growing slowly. Most of the students in my school are on free or reduced lunch and a lot are not English speaking as a first language. We are a title one school. Teachers in our area can use as much help as possible to make school awesome because our students home lives aren't always the best nor do they have a lot!

My Project

Imagine an alphabet wall with words and pictures that they can use to help with their reading readiness skills. A picture chart for our schedules and centers will help the students be more independent and able to follow along with not having me or my assistant repeating our selves, which come on who wants to hear things so many times. A job chart with their picture, hello can that get any cooler than to see your own face on the wall telling you what to do. I can imagine this kit bringing so much independence and joy to our classroom! Can't you see it?

This amazing kit will help my kids year after year with great picture cues, and visual prompting.

It well help to not have to listen to me over and over, instead they get to look at pictures band become more independent. independence is my goal for all my students! Having this kit will also help me spend less time making these things and more time planning lessons, and building life skills!
