My Project

My students love to come to school but at time it can be overstimulating for them. The overstimulation can come from noises, lights, change in routine or not being able to communicate their need. These materials will enable me to provide a classroom that will enable them to come in and escape most of the outside stimulations. The light covers will help dim the lights but make it bright enough they are not always in the dark. The aromatherapy diffuser will help fill the air with a soft scent.

Some of the materials will provide a sensory outlet for my students.

They will be able to go over the the calm down area of the classroom and have access to a variety of ways to calm down. The mirrors will help the students will be able to express how they are feeling. If they require pressure and/or holding a stuffed animal, the weight animals will be able to provide that comfort. The sensory mats, brushes and balls will allow the students to feel different textures and choose which best helps them calm down. The sensory bins are good for sensory and social play as they can interact together with the bins.

Being able to give my students a calm classroom and an area for them to gain control of their feelings, will give us the ability to help the students identify when they are starting to become overstimulated and how to better calm themselves using various ways to communicate, calm down and redirect the behaviors.
