A Space For Small Group Learning

My students need a new classroom table for guided reading and small group learning. We also need storage for our big books, that currently do not have an appropriate home.

My Students

Every classroom has a diverse group of students. Students learn in many different ways and as a teacher I want to embrace this. Many students are successful when working within a small group. A small group allows for the teacher to encourage students and give immediate feedback.

I have a classroom full of 21 burgeoning kindergartners.

My kiddos are so eager to learn, however, like most children, they respond best to structure and consistency. Many of them do not have a lot of learning opportunities outside of school. My goal as a teacher is to provide them with a classroom environment that revolves around learning.

My Project

My students love having different areas within our classroom. We currently have a listening center, technology corner, classroom library, and a whole group learning area. However, we do not have a dedicated small group area. Right now when I work with a small group of students we just have to find an open spot in the classroom, and unfortunately it is not consistent from day to day. A horseshoe table would be perfect for a dedicated small group area within our classroom. The table would be used for guided reading, centers, and a place to meet with a small group of students. A dedicated small group area will make our learning environment more positive and student friendly.

Students really do appreciate structure in the classroom.

Having a dedicated learning space where students can go to work in a small group will allow for all students to be successful. The horseshoe table will allow for us to work in small groups with less distractions, therefor allowing students to be better learners.
