My Project

The use of Chromebooks has certainly revolutionized the way that we teach history in the classroom, and the way that students discover and interact with the events of our past. There are so many innovative projects and programs that allow for the students to fully immerse themselves in the sights and sounds of events in history. For example, there is an exciting program called Mission US that allows students to take on a role as a fictional character to see how various choices and interactions effected the daily lives of ordinary people during events such as the American Revolution or the Civil Rights Movement. The only downside to weaving these programs into instruction is that we must rely on the students to provide their own set of headphones or risk the sounds being played aloud and distracting other students. Due to the economic circumstances of the students in our school, it is not always possible for all of them to have their own set of headphones. Allowing sound to play aloud can also be detrimental to students with various learning needs and difficulties.

With a class set of headphones, we would be able to provide the students with the opportunity to engage in exciting and innovative lessons without distracting from the learning of others.

This also would allow students the flexibility to listen to music as they work, which can be an excellent way to boost student morale and productivity. I typically do not allow headphone use in the classroom since there is currently no equitable access for the students, however with a new classroom set of headphones I would be able to provide that opportunity to each one of my students.
