My Students

Do you remember how excited you were to see the TV cart rolled into your classroom when you were younger? Learning in a new way or doing a rare activity is always so fun and exciting for us and for the students!

I have a homeroom of 18 eager to learn boys and girls!

I also have a reading group of 20 (15 who are not part of my homeroom) for a total of 33 students daily. Our school is small and in a rural community. Although we have limited resources we try to expose our students to as much 21st century technology as possible to help prepare them for their futures. One of their favorite tools in our classroom is the SMART board! We are fortunate enough to have one of our own in our classroom, and they love to interact with the board. Whether they are working math problems or playing an educational game, I see the same excitement on their faces when it's their turn at the board!

My Project

Unfortunately it isn't easy or practical to let 18 students wait in line to write on the board on multiple occasions every day. As much as we try to use our SMART board in class, it's usually me writing. When we do have time to use the SMART board as a class during a lesson we take turns. To be fair every student gets to go once before anyone can go a second time. Sometimes we make it all the way through our class giving everyone a turn. Sometimes we don't, and some students must wait until the next day. Rarely do any of the kids get to go twice a day. As we take turns, we spend valuable time waiting for kids to walk to and from the board - time that could be spent practicing new skills or learning new content! Time that we could be using to let more students take a turn. With your help, we can interact with our SMART board more frequently and use our time more wisely!

I want all of my students to have the chance to get involved.

After all, they do love that board! A SMART slate would be the perfect solution! It can be easily (and quickly) passed around from seat to seat and all of our class can be involved and engaged! No more day dreaming...no more waiting for kids to walk to and from the board...everyone will anxiously await their turn with the slate!
