Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am requesting snacks for my school community so that we can help each other fight hunger. This project is to ensure no student, family, or community member goes hungry during these hard times. Many students have asked to help out the community by being able to provide others with a snack when they feel they need one and this project will help students be able to do that.

Students who have access to snacks have an increased alertness and improved moods throughout the morning, fostering a better learning experience.

We want to be able to maintain our food closet for students to help other students grab a snack when needed. The closet will be a place they can go and see a student who's in charge of giving out the snacks, and they can have a snack anytime they are hungry. In my school, we want to create a community space so that students can grab a snack for a fellow peer anytime they feel they need one to make them feel welcome and happy when in school daily! Students will be in charge of the space and lead the efforts to help other students when someone is in need of a snack. We are also planning a community night where we will have students pass out snacks to community members. We want this to be a student-led event where our students plan it and invite community members to the building and students will pass snacks out to those in need. If the students know of a friend or community member who is hungry and could benefit from a snack, this community closet will help that student help out their peers and community members.
