My Students

My students live in a high poverty urban area in which supplies are limited from recent budget cuts. Many of my students need intensive reading to improve their reading levels but I am short in a supply of appropriate books for all levels of reading that span across my class which ranges from 2-7.

My students attend a urban school on the east coast.

Each year I create a classroom environment in which my students are respectful of each other and assist others in their learning experiences as well as their own. This year's group has welcomed this environment with open arms. They understand that I want to provide them the best education that they can receive. This particular group of students LOVE to read. They have shown interest in a wide range of books. I think what they love most is the time they get to spend with me in a smaller group. They know that I get to pay attention to just them and their needs. I want to ensure that my students have ample supplies to allow me to provide them what they deserve!

My Project

The materials that I have requested will make a difference in my students lives because they will have the joy of reading with fun and interesting books while sharing it in a small group of peers. These books will be used for my guided reading groups. Guided reading groups is a part of Comprehensive Literature which was adopted by the school district about a decade ago. CL is a model of reading that creates purposeful instruction. Guided reading, which is a small group reading time, is one component of the model. Other parts of the model include word study and independent writing. I hope to instill the love of reading that I have in my students by exposing them to a variety of books while teaching them key concepts. The joy of reading will open them up to new experiences in life that they may not otherwise get to experience.

My overall goal for sharing these books with my students is to enrich their lives.

Books are not just words on paper, books will open a child's mind to imagination and real world knowledge. I want all children to be able to work to their highest potential and become productive adults in our society. My students need these materials to allow me to do just that. You will help me help the next generation of learners become a productive adults. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.
