My Project

In Special Education, it is vitally important to meet the specific needs of individual students. In order to meet the needs of the children who experience sensory overload and overstimulation due to Autism, my goal is to create an area of my classroom that can be used for assisting my students when a calm, neutral place is needed. Specifically, items that help my students process sensory movements will enable me to give my students the time, space and activities which will allow them to resume learning.

Any activity that activates touch, motion, bodily awareness, sight, sound, and the natural pull of gravity allows my students to process sensory movement.

Swings, rockers, and enveloping seating can be used to create this important space. Additionally, fine motor and educational activities that can be used in the classroom will help me in meeting the academic goals of my students.
