My Project

Teaching is a gift within itself. It is a joy that teaches me something new each day. This year, I have the pleasure of teaching a Special Needs/Autism bridge class. Students with Special Needs are often overlooked and isolated. Their parents have not been adequately informed on how to meet and support their needs. It becomes overwhelming and in the end, the child suffers. I am so excited to meet the students I have been learning about all summer. I look forward to creatively meeting their academic and social/emotional needs.

I ask that you assist me in creating a sensory-based learning environment that will create a barrier-free support system for their overall needs.

With this project, I hope that my students will learn how to self-regulate, effectively communicate their needs and understandings as well as find joy in learning. It is also my goal to use these items to empower and coach my students' families, so they feel confident responding to and supporting their child's needs.

The items selected will help each student differently. The flex balls will provide flexible seating, and increase focus and work productivity. The floor decals provide differentiated instruction, support social learning skills, promote self-regulation, and encourage communication through play.

Help me give these students an opportunity to experience a strong foundation of learning through a sensory-themed classroom. This will provide them with tools for success and make learning fun.
