A Seating Choice Gives Students a Voice

My Students

I teach an active group of second grade students from a small, agricultural school district. Providing accommodations and allowing my students to stay active in the classroom and engage their bodies while learning is extremely important to me.

We are located in a farm community where students have the opportunity to learn about all things agriculture in a hands-on setting.

From operating a student-run greenhouse, to raising animals such as sheep, pigs, and chickens, students are able to learn through experience and activity.

My Project

We have been so blessed to have not one, but two DonorsChoose projects funded this year giving students the opportunity to have a choice when it comes to classroom seating. My students and I have discussed options for flexible seating, and they are excited about the option of having comfy pillows!

These comfy pillows will give students another seating option that will allow them to learn from the comfort of a lowered table on the floor.

Students can sit comfortably on a pillow while still having the solid workspace of a table.

These materials will make a difference in the lives of my students by giving them a choice and empowering them with the opportunity to voice which seating option works best for them on a daily basis. These new seating options have provided structure, while at the same time allowing students to work in an environment that allows them to move and stay active throughout the day.
