My Project

Children should not always have to sit at a desk to work. In the lower grades we had a lot of cute rugs and flexible seating. Now with the third graders they have bigger tables and just hardwood floors. You can only sit in the hard chairs so long.

Too old for a cute carpet but not to old to sit on the floor.

Last years a neighbor was giving away these meditation floor cushions and I took them for my class. When we would do small group reading or class discussions I would have them grab a cushion or a pillow and sit on the floor. We had two bottoms per cushion and still many kids just on the hardwood. The cushions are perfect to pull out and put away when not needed. The students love to sit on them and read, talk and more.

I only have six now and would like to get more. I am not asking for one per student but I would like enough for at least small group reading. If I could have at least 12 in my class then that would allow each student to share a pillow and nobody on the hard floor. We also do a lot of calming activities and breathing things to help ease anxiety. These are perfect for them.

Each day we like to have a calm space that we can just sit and talk and having more of these would make it a lot more comfortable to do.
