My Students

I am a veteran history teacher in an urban district. My students work best with the teacher with whom they have developed relationships. Last spring, even my class is heavily tech-savvy, we struggled to get Chromebooks to our students in a timely fashion. This fall, we are seemingly going to have some of the kids some days in class and the rest on the other days of the week.

I want to make sure that COVID-19 does not steal another moment of educational learning from my kids.

To make that happen, I need your help.

My Project

By allowing me to record or stream my teaching, these 21st tools will allow my at-home students to keep in touch with what we have done in the brick and mortar school via Google Classroom. We can do some of our learning through Google Meets while we are separated, but not everything can be carried out that way. I am a storyteller. Some of those stories still need to be told, especially in the world we live in.

My students need to feel connected to our classroom and their classmates, even when they are apart.

The Swivl and connected tablet will allow me to make that happen. Having half of the kids in school on A days and half in school on B days makes it very difficult to keep every student up to date and on the same page during the COVID crisis. My other concern is privacy. By having a camera that follows me and not all speakers, I can respect the privacy of the students while they participate in class discussions. These discussions will be loaded and recorded on to the table to be saved on Classroom in case students are absent or ill, but it respects the privacy, per the media release. This tool will allow my AP kids to stay on course and will allow my traditional World History kids to engage the discussion with their peers from the other groups. All while keeping the students safe.
