My Students

Developing Social Emotional Learning (SEL) at this urban public high school is in full swing, all we need is your help in this Phase 1! This high school student body makeup is 49%male and 51% female, & total minority enrollment is 90%. Total economically disadvantaged students is 88%. Students here have the opportunity to take AP and IB courses. This high school also has an Honors Arts program! This High School is 1 of 107 - thus the budget is sparse.

My Project

The field of education has come to the realization that students social emotional status impact learning!

National Association of Education (NEA) promotes social emotional learning!

My students need materials to transform this space into a safe comfortable place for social emotional development. (1) display rack, (2) booklets/brochures, (3) manipulatives (fidgets, stress balls etc.), and (4) canvas for inspirational quotes-painted by students.

High school age students are making socially and emotionally related decisions everyday. This project offers them easy access, and resources, in a comfortable and safe environment to get the level of assistance they need to make good decisions, emotionally regulate, and get help when needed.

Funds for SEL are limited, but the needs are greater than ever, evidenced by an increase in episodes of school violence. Educators can't wait any longer, we must act now!
