This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Hi! I am a Pre-K teacher and this year we will have 19 eager learners in our class. The students gather in the meeting area to start our day. It is our place to develop friendships, talk out issues, and learn. The students also love to use this area to lay down and read a book or do floor puzzles.

We are a title one school with a tight budget, and I try my best to fill in the gaps in my Pre-K class.

Each year I need to replace the foam mats in the meeting area, and this rug would free me up to buy other things that the school cannot provide us. We would really benefit from a classroom rug to sit on in our meeting area.

My Project

This rug will be the focal point in our classroom. The pillows included will assist some of the students who need alternative seating choices. We will meet here first thing each and every morning. We do our calendar and talk about the schedule for the day. This is the place for book read alouds and group lessons. Our daily story time and singing will happen, luckily the rug won’t hear how loud we are! The meeting area is where we will learn how to take turns, share, and talk about our day and play. The students learn that the meeting area is a safe place to share their thoughts and feelings.
